Austria’s Wachau Valley is one of the wine world’s more striking landscapes. It’s also one of the more tenuous. A whole generation of farmers, used to the difficult, unforgiving work of farming the steep, terraced slopes are finding that their children are uninterested in carrying on their work, and many vineyards, like the one in the foreground of this image are being abandoned.
