Vinography Images: A Place of Spirit

The famous vineyard of Clos de Coulée de Serrant is a pretty special place just on its own. It’s one of the very few individual vineyards in the world that gets its own designated wine appellation. I took this photo not just because it was a beautiful shot of this old, walled vineyard. But also because you can see two symbols of spiritual significance in the same shot—the tip of a church spire in the background, and a (bronze-age?) megalith, or standing stone in the foreground. The vineyard was planted by monks in the 12th century, but if the standing stone is any indication, it’s been a special spot since long before then.
