Commentary.

I lived in Dorking for five years in the late 1980’s

and I still like the town and frequently visit or travel through.

It is known geographically as a “Gap Town.”

The gap in question is the Mole Valley.

The River Mole, or more so, its predecessors, after Ice-Ages,

eroded the valley through the chalk of the North Downs, now linking Dorking with Leatherhead.
