I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.
They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), so you can get right to the point and decide if they’re for you (or not). Cheers!
- 2023 Marques de Riscal Organic Verdejo (Rueda): Heady, perfumed, and lemony goodness at a price too reasonable to resist. $15 B+
- 2023 Lagar de Cervera Albarino (Rias Baixas): Leaps from the glass, but elegantly, like a ballerina. Fantastic value. $27 A-
- 2022 P+S Prats & Symington Post Scriptum de Chryseia (Douro): Lots of blue fruit action in this vintage. Good spice, and a lot of leather. This really speaks of place and has aspects reminiscent of Port (including the power). $32 A-
- 2022 Pierre-Marie Chermette Domaine du Vissoux Fleurie ‘Poncie’ (Beaujolais): Floral, peppery, and the red berry action is surprisingly deep and hefty. The finish is spicy, long, and delightful. Niiiiice! $32 A-
- 2023 Domaine de la Citadelle Luberon ‘Court Metrage’ Rose (Vaucluse): Dried and fresh strawberries, herbs, roses, fun. $NA B
- 2023 LaCheteau Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine Sur Lie (Loire): Lemony fresh with melon tones; as easy on the palate as it is on the wallet. $10 B
- 2014 Emanuel Tres Grenache (Santa Ynez Valley): Very developed, very stewy, still very fruity, and still very good. $NA B+
- 2022 Cuda Ridge Wines Cabernet Franc (Livermore Valley): Very dark and tangy red fruit, crazy long fruity finish, and green herbs setting up shop all over the place. $45 A-
- 2022 Cuda Ridge Wines ‘Casa de Viñas’ Carménère (Livermore Valley): Spicy, dark, brooding, spicy, juicy, focused, spicy, and decidedly mineral. Did I mention spicy? $50 A-
- 2022 Monte Xanic Calixa Syrah (Valle de Guadalupe): Leather, blackberry, and pepper, all wrapped up tight in good tannic structure. $25 B+
