I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.
They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), so you can get right to the point and decide if they’re for you (or not). Cheers!
- 2017 La Rioja Alta S.A. Vina Ardanza Reserva (Rioja): Deep, bright, elegant, and still one of region’s most consistently awesome buys. $42 A-
- 2020 Tenuta Cucco Bricco Voghera (Barolo): Put your old school hat on for this earthy, tangy, and developed tribute to Piedmont’s yesteryear. $92 A-
- 2017 Bertinga ‘Punta di Adine’ (Toscana): All the lines are clearly delineated in this focused, structured, assertive, and delicious display. $100 A
- NV Roederer Estate Brut Rose (Anderson Valley): Dark red berry, red apple in a mix that’s quite floral, a bit pushy, but very tasty… $34 B+
- 2023 Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast): Ripe and juicy peaches, buttressed by hints of yellow apple crispness. $24 B+
- 2021 Goosecross Cellars State Lane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley): Oh bring us some (dried) figgy pudding, and a whooooole bunch of leeeaaaaaather! $90 A-
- 2023 L’Ecole No. 41 Seven Hills Vineyard Luminesce Semillon – Sauvignon Blanc (Walla Walla Valley): Nectarine, peach, apricot, toast and spice, floral hints… take caution, as this one goes down all too easily. $28 B+
- 2021 L’Ecole No. 41 Ferguson Vineyard Red (Walla Walla Valley): Very, very sexy! Cinnamon, clove, ripe black plum, black currants, leather, dried herbs and violets; all smooth yet not without some grip. $80 A-
- 2021 L’Ecole No. 41 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley): Currants, cassis, cedar, cut rosemary, and commanding presence. $32 B+
- 2023 Bodega Garzon Single Vineyard Albarino (Maldonado): Perky AF, with plenty of lemony richness and tropical verve & complex textures. $40 A-
