I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.

They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), so you can get right to the point and decide if they’re for you (or not). Cheers!

  • NV Valdo ‘Marca Oro’ Prosecco Brut (Veneto): A bit of herbal tinge, more than a bit of fresh pear, and a whole lot of refreshment for the money. $15 B+
  • NV Valdo ‘Marca Oro’ Prosecco Rose Brut (Veneto): A bouncing bounty of brambly [red] berries. $16 B+
  • 2023 Kellerei Kaltern ‘Saleit’ Chardonnay (Alto Adige – Sudtirol): If you like yellow tree fruits and jasmine, this is your jam. $29 B+
  • 2022 Kellerei Kaltern ‘Quintessenz’ Classico Superiore (Sudtirol – Alto Adige): Redcurrants, game, rose petal, red cherry, all appearing fun, but belying an undercurrent of seriousness. $35 A-
  • 2023 Kellerei Kaltern Leuchtenberg Kalterersee Classico Superiore (Trentino-Alto Adige): Dark red fruit and spices, a meaty palate, & a sultry demeanor. $NA B+
  • 2023 Kellerei Kaltern Kalterersee Classico Superiore (Trentino-Alto Adige): A aggressive bitterness might turn some off, but there’s lovely sour cherry fruit and spice for those who stick around. $30 B+
  • 2017 Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite Les Legendes ‘R’ (Bordeaux): Solid plum action delivered with a hearty side of green herbs. $18 B
  • 2010 Quinta dos Avidagos Vista da Regua Reserva (Douro): Woody, smoky, spicy, juicy, and defying the aging odds like Mick Jagger. $22 B+
  • NV Scharffenberger Cellars Brut Excellence (Mendocino County): Delicious. Red, yellow, and green apples, pears, hints of red berry and plum, and plenty of brioche for you bread lovers like me. $24 B+
  • 2022 Bird in Hand Pinot Noir Rose (Adelaide Hills): We ate raaaasperrry pureeeeeeee… $20 B+
