I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.
They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), so you can get right to the point and decide if they’re for you (or not). Cheers!
- 2017 Tenute Cisa Asinari Marchesi di Gresy ‘La Serra’ (Moscato d’Asti): Still not aging your better Moscato? Well, this sweet thang that’s still dripping with juicy ripe fruit fun is proving you wrong. $20 B+
- 2023 Ca’ d’Gal ‘Lumine’ (Moscato d’Asti): Basically a surefire way to brighten up just about any day. $28 B+
- 2022 Aviana Red Blend (Portugal): Got burgers on the grill? Then this is a good, earthy, plummy, spicy pick. $19 B
- 2021 The Pinot Project Pinot Noir (California): Goes down dangerously easily, but is dangerously close to ‘meh’ territory. $15 B-
- 2020 McGrail Vineyards ‘A Jo Elet’/’The Good Life’ Red (Livermore Valley): Silky, woody, spicy, and very, very, very sexy. $59 A-
- 2021 Matthews Winery Cuvee (Columbia Valley): A spicy, dusty, smoky, structured intro to the whole higher end Columbia Valley shebang. $55 A-
- 2021 Matthews Winery Claret (Columbia Valley): A little aromatically reticent, but recovers exceedingly well (and quickly) with a sultry and succulent palate. $55 A-
- 2021 Matthews Winery Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley): Alluring, with dusty tannins, a whole mess of wonderful black fruit, and irresistible charm. $50 A-
- 2023 Jaine Rose (Columbia Valley): Refreshing and friendly, but with an elegant streak… I could drink me a whole lot of this on a warm summer evening… $25 B+
- 2021 Terrazas de los Andes Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza): A rather nicely done combo of ripe currant fruits, herbal spice, and mineral lift. $20 B+
