I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.

They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), so you can get right to the point and decide if they’re for you (or not). Cheers!

• 2022 Aviana Verdejo (Spain): Bright, and bountiful with bold honeysuckle budding about. $20 B
• 2021 Badia di Morrona ‘Taneto’ (Toscana): Earth, licorice, black cherry, dried citrus peel, dried sage, lots of herbs spice in the mouth, bold palate feel… This one is making a statement! $30 A-
• 2017 Amaro Winery Malbec (New Mexico): Jammy and pushing the envelope to near splitting point, but doing it all with red fruit flair. $32 B+
• 2022 Noisy Water Winery Sangiovese (New Mexico): Woody right now, but the structure, vibrancy, and bright cherry fruit all point to a promising bottle future. $18 B+
• 2020 Noisy Water Winery Reserve Pinot Noir (New Mexico): Fresh and well-crafted, if maybe a touch overly enthusiastic about itself. $39 B+
• 2020 Noisy Water Winery Reserve Chambourcin (New Mexico): The most full-bore Chamb you’re likely to ever encounter, and it’s nice to see the spicy little guy getting a premium take! $75 B+
• 2020 Noisy Water Winery Vintner’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (New Mexico): Blackcurrants, black cherries, and a deeply jet-black depth. $69 B+
• 2020 Oak Ridge Winery ‘Old Soul’ Petite Sirah (Lodi): What a smokey, tangy, leathery bargain to be had here… $15 B+
• 2021 Oak Ridge Winery ‘Old Soul’ Chardonnay (Lodi): Peachy, floral, flavorful, and deliciously balanced. $16 B+
• 2018 Luke Cabernet Sauvignon (Wahluke Slope): When its dark dustiness settles, there’s good bang for the buck here. $22 B+
