Vinography Images: Patchwork Quilt

Some vineyards are simple rectangles, regularly gridded with rows of vines. That works when you’ve got a uniformly sloped hillside or a flat piece of benchland. But when you’re trying to grow grapes on the knobbly hills of a tiny island, you have to get creative. That’s one reason why the vineyards at Man O’ War Vineyards on Waiheke Island in New Zealand are so scenic, tucked in amongst the folds of the hills, and alternating with hedgerows for windbreaks, olive trees, and patches of flowers and herbs.
