I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.

They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), so you can get right to the point and decide if they’re for you (or not). Cheers!

• 2023 Ca’D’Gal Sauvignon (Piedmont): Grassy, floral, herbal, and deceptively Big! Gooseberry on steroids… $NA B+
• 2023 Ca’D’Gal Chardonnay (Piedmont): Peachy, mineral, and absolutely gorgeously irresistible. $NA A-
• 2014 Bedell Cellars Cabernet Franc (North Fork of Long Island): Exuding confidence and poise, even as it’s getting up there in years. $25 B+
• 2017 Parker Station Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles): Like them jammy and juicy? This is your stop! $20 B+
• 2016 Castoro Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles): Earthy, juicy, and still jamming with assertive currant fruitiness. $20 B+
• 2023 Domaine Carneros Avant-Garde Pinot Noir Rose (Carneros): This is like a lovely Tavel taking a vacation in sunny NorCal. $32 A-
• 2022 Merry Edwards Anderson Valley Pinot Noir (Mendocino County): Nice & sultry, with leather, earth, tea leaf, rhubarb, blackberry and nutmeg in a hedonistic but balanced package. $50 A-
• 2022 Merry Edwards Anderson Valley Chardonnay (Mendocino County): Fascinating & pretty study in contrasts between a rich, floral, spice-tinged nose and a linear, lemony, long, mouthfeel. $45 A-
• 2022 Domaine Bousquet Cabernet Sauvignon (Tupungato): Cedar and violet spices juxtaposed against dark, plummy, tangy fruit. In other words, a damned good time! $14 B
• 2020 Orfila Estate Selection Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza): Juicy AF, with its fair share of classic Cab redcurrant, cassis, and herbal notes. $14 B
