Sardinia for wine lovers

Bastioni di San Remy, Cagliari. Despite the Mediterranean glitz and glamour of Sardinia’s upmarket resorts, the island offers a rustic charm that still holds it apart from Italy’s more typical tourist destinations. Located approximately 240km off the mainland, the fervently autonomous region remains a haven for dreamy, unspoiled coastline, picturesque countryside, and authentic gastronomic experiences. As if hidden in plain …

Producer Profile: Weingut Willi Schaefer

Andrea and Christoph Schaefer. Blink and you could miss it. The village of Graach, or Graach an der Mosel, was first mentioned in historical texts in 975. Home to just over 600 inhabitants, it is a tiny town lying alongside the B53 road as it traces the meanders of the Mittelmosel while you’re making your way north from picturesque Bernkastel …

Silvio Grasso Barolo Annunziata Vigna Plicotti 2019 $68 (95 points)

Alluring for its harmony and complex flavors of smoky cherry, raspberry, flowers, anise and iron. This red’s texture starts out silky, picking up structure by the way of firm, chalky tannins by the finish. Long, with ripe fruit as a lasting impression. Best from 2026 through 2043. 300 cases made, 100 cases imported. Source : a6bf29a99667323be2744f5ba50eb8ce

2022 Banfi La Pettegola Vermentino

This snazzy label caught our eye, and we were surprised when the wine turned out to be a Vermentino. Especially considering the $12.99 price tag at Costco. What a find. Online this wine is selling for $20-22, and it doesn’t always come with the special bottle design. We didn’t find a lot of ratings for … Source : https://costcowineblog.com/2022-banfi-la-pettegola-vermentino/

2021 Villa Sparina Barbera

This is the second Barbera we’ve found at Costco in just a handful of weeks.  What a treat to keep finding these (last one was delicious). If this bottle looks familiar, it’s because this is the same producer of the wonderful Gavi we found at Costco earlier this year.  This short, stout bottle must be … Source : https://costcowineblog.com/2021-villa-sparina-barbera/

2020 Chateau Fombrauge Saint Emilion Bordeaux

Here’s a new Saint Emilion Grand Cru that showed up at our Costco, and it’s one that we’ve tasted and always enjoyed in the past. Usually a solid wine at a great value, and that’s exactly what we found in the 2020 vintage. Costco’s price was $35.99, which is totally fair for a wine of … Source : https://costcowineblog.com/2020-chateau-fombrauge-saint-emilion-bordeaux/
