How exclusive is Ultramarine, the single-vineyard sparkling wine made by winemaker Michael Cruse? Well, the wine was first released in 2014, and up until a few months ago, I still hadn’t tasted a bottle. Now I will admit, I wasn’t bending over backwards to taste it, and I’m sure if I had called up Michael Cruse and asked him to send me a sample, he would have done it. But the fact of the matter remains that even hanging out with fellow wine geeks, wine writers, and attending various industry events where many wines flow freely, I still hadn’t managed to have a taste. I had seen it on wine lists at fancy restaurants for several hundred dollars, but I was not moved to throw down the cash for a bottle.
