The wines of California’s Anderson Valley have received encouraging nods from the press and critics, but without room to expand its tourism industry, the region is at a crossroads, says Jess Lander in the San Francisco Chronicle. “The remote region’s potential for tourism has been squandered by a myriad of factors, not the least of which is that it’s far from a major city and airport…The lack of tourism creates a ripple effect: It’s stifling the success of Anderson Valley’s burgeoning wine industry. Without visitors, the region is unable to build recognition and compete against California’s more recognizable names. The small wineries, which sell almost exclusively direct to consumers, rely heavily on foot traffic to keep their doors open.”
According to Danny Chau in PUNCH, the term “juice” is out and “juicy” is in. “One letter can change context completely. There was a noticeable recoil when I asked about “juice” as a term, when what I was really considering was “juicy” as a descriptor—the former being a scourge of scenester language, the latter being a guiding principle for much of contemporary winemaking.”
French rosé is rebounding in the U.S., according to a recent Shanken News report. “Import volume is still below pre-pandemic levels, but Provence rosé’s shipment value is higher now than in 2019, up to a new all-time high of €143.4 million ($151.1 million). And while the double-digit gains of the past two decades are now in the rearview mirror, French rosé remains one of the few bright spots in an otherwise sluggish U.S. wine market.”
